Most common repairs needed to fix a Samsung washer

Electronic Control Board Replacement

A malfunctioning electronic control board can lead to various failures in a washer. This is because the board serves as the brain of the washer, controlling crucial components such as the water valve, drive motor, drain pump, and cycles. If the electronic control board fails, the washer may not power up or display the cycle status. Additionally, it might fail to fill, agitate, spin, or drain. In some cases, a shorted board may emit a burning smell.

How to replace the electronic control board in a washer

User Interface Control Replacement

A faulty user interface control may become unresponsive and won’t allow you to change wash cycle settings or turn the washer on and off. In some failures, only one or two buttons or dials on the interface are affected, but in some cases the entire interface will be completely dead. Cycle status such as time remaining in the cycle won’t display properly on a defective user interface. Control keys or buttons on the user interface may also stick, causing the washer to exhibit inconsistent behavior, such as starting or stopping unexpectedly during a cycle. Error codes may also be present.

Motor Replacement

A broken washer motor will prevent the spin basket from rotating or agitating, and can also cause a variety of other issues that affect the washer’s ability to function properly. Signs that the motor is wearing out include unusual noises during operation, such as grinding or squealing sounds. The washer may also exhibit erratic spinning or agitation, with clothes not being properly rinsed or still soaking wet after the spin cycle. Additionally, a worn-out motor may lead to the washer not completing its cycles, stopping abruptly, or not starting at all. Burnt smells or overheating around the motor area can be indicative of internal problems. In some cases, visible damage to the motor itself may be apparent.

Why is my Samsung washing machine not powering on?

Power supply problems, a damaged power cord or a bad electronic control board can prevent your Samsung washer from powering on.

Follow the helpful tips in this helpful video for your Samsung washer when it won’t power up:

Check for power

When your Samsung washer is completely unresponsive, start by ruling out the obvious--is it unplugged? Did the circuit breaker trip?

To test whether the electrical outlet is the problem, plug a night light or other electrical device into it. If the night light doesn't work, the wiring in the outlet is the problem. Have an electrician repair the electrical outlet.

Check the washer power cord

If the night light does work, there could be a wiring problem in the washer. Follow these steps to check wiring in the washing machine:

Unplug the washer and check the power cord for damage. Replace the power cord if it's damaged.

Schedule washer repair service to have a Sears Home Services technician replace the power cord if you aren’t completely confident that you can install that part on your own.

Replacing the power cord in a Samsung top-load washer

  1. Unplug the power cord if it isn’t already unplugged.
  2. Follow the procedure shown in the image above to access the electronic control board and electromagnetic filter (EMI filter) in your Samsung top-load washer.
  3. The power cord wires are connected to the EMI filter on most Samsung top-load washers. Remove the cover from the EMI filter if your model has one.
  4. Unplug the power cord wire harness connector. Remove the ground screw to disconnect the green ground wire.
  5. Install the new power cord. Connect the green ground wire and plug in the power cord wire harness.
  6. Reassemble the washer.

Plug in the power cord and test the washer. If it still doesn’t power up, a bad EMI filter or failed electronic control board could be causing the problem.

Replacing the power cord in a Samsung front-load washer.

Unplug the power cord if it isn’t already unplugged.

Remove the top washer panel and follow the same steps described above to replace the power cord in your Samsung front-load washer.

If the washer still won’t power up after replacing the power cord, you’ll likely need to have a service technician diagnose and fix the washer. A bad control board, defective control panel, wiring failure or a number of other problems could be preventing the machine from getting power.

What to expect when you experience a Samsung washer no power issue

How is the no power problem fixed?

Correcting most no power problems usually involves replacing the electronic control board, user interface control or motor. However, there are many potential causes, so a thorough diagnosis is key to fixing the problem. An accurate diagnosis is essential to understanding how much the repair will be.

Sears Home Services recommendations for a washer that has no power

When the washer has no power it can be for many reasons. To avoid replacing unneeded parts we recommend having a Sears Home Services professional perform diagnostic tests to identify the root cause of the problem. Our technicians are experienced at diagnosing all types of washer failures.

What to look out for with a washer no power diagnosis

Diagnosing modern appliances without proper knowledge and training can be difficult. Without using proper diagnostic techniques, fixing your washer problem will only be achieved through changing parts on a hunch. Appliances, especially in the last 10 years, have become extremely advanced, and many models have electronic parts that are difficult to test. DIY repairs on the latest appliance models are becoming increasingly difficult.

Troubleshooting Samsung Washer Power Issues

When your Samsung washer won't turn on, it can be frustrating and inconvenient. Here are some common troubleshooting steps to help you identify and fix the issue.

Checking the Power Supply

If your Samsung washer won't turn on, start by checking the power supply. Ensure the washer is properly plugged into a working outlet. Sometimes, a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse can be the culprit. Reset the breaker or replace the fuse if necessary. Inspect the power cord for any visible damage. If the cord is frayed or broken, it will need to be replaced.

Inspecting the Control Panel

When your Samsung washer won't power on, the issue might be with the electronic control board. This component acts as the brain of the washer, and if it fails, the washer won't receive the necessary commands to start. Listen for any unusual sounds when attempting to power on the washer, as clicking or buzzing noises can indicate a control board problem.

Also check the user interface control. If the buttons or touchscreen are unresponsive, the washer won't power on. Inspect the control panel for any signs of damage or loose connections. In some cases, cleaning the control panel can resolve the issue if dirt or moisture is causing a malfunction.

Additional Troubleshooting Steps

If basic troubleshooting steps don’t resolve the problem, there may be a deeper electrical issue at play. For instance, a malfunctioning door lock mechanism can prevent the washer from powering on, as the washer's safety system requires the door to be locked before starting any cycle.

Inspecting internal wiring and connections might be necessary if the washer still won't power on. Loose or disconnected wires can disrupt the power supply, preventing the washer from functioning.

By following these troubleshooting steps, you can identify why your Samsung washer won't turn on and take the necessary actions to fix it. Regular maintenance and timely repairs will help keep your washer running smoothly and efficiently. If you're unable to diagnose or fix the problem on your own, consider contacting a professional technician for further assistance.
If your Samsung washer remains unresponsive—no lights or action—damaged wiring or a blown fuse might be the cause. Simple resets won’t solve deep electrical faults. Rather than stockpiling laundry, contact washing machine repair near me. Restoring power ensures your Samsung can resume its daily duties.
