Whirlpool Microwave Won’t Start

- Disable the control lock. The control lock disables the control panel buttons to prevent unintended use or little hands from fiddling with the microwave. To turn the control lock off, make sure the microwave and timer are off, then touch and hold the cancel button for three deliberate seconds. You’ll hear a tone to indicate that it worked. After disabling the control lock, you should be able to start the microwave.
- Reset the electronic control board. A power surge or glitch through the electrical power lines going to your home can freeze up the electronic control board in the microwave. Reset the control board by unplugging the power cord for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in to restore power to the microwave. The electronic control board and other circuit boards in the microwave will reboot and may start working properly. See if you can start the microwave after resetting the control board.
