Most common repairs needed to fix a LG dishwasher
Electronic Control Board Replacement
A dishwasher that won’t turn off could have a defective electronic control board. The control board should turn off the control panel when the dishwasher is idle. When the control panel stays lit constantly, a bad relay or failed logic in the electronic control board could be causing the problem. When your dishwasher won’t turn off, have a Sears Home Services Technician check out the controls and replace the electronic control board if it’s defective.
User Interface Control Replacement
A damaged user interface control won’t turn off the dishwasher when the cycle finishes. The power button or another button on the user interface control will cause the control panel to stay on constantly. Checking the user interface control to determine whether it is damaged requires special tools and diagnostic equipment. When your dishwasher won’t turn off, have a Sears Home Services Repair Expert visit your home and replace the user interface control if it’s damaged.
Drain Pump Replacement
When you hear the dishwasher running constantly and it won’t turn off, a failed drain pump could be causing the problem. When the control detects water in the sump after the wash cycle ends, it may run the drain pump to remove the water. When a failed drain pump doesn’t remove the water, the control may continue to run the drain pump indefinitely. If water stays in the dishwasher tub and you hear the drain pump running constantly, schedule a Sears Home Services Repair Expert to examine the dishwasher and replace the failed drain pump.

What to look out for with a dishwasher won't turn off diagnosis
Diagnosing modern appliances without proper knowledge and training can be difficult. Without using proper diagnostic techniques, fixing your dishwasher problem will only be achieved through changing parts on a hunch. Appliances, especially in the last 10 years, have become extremely advanced, and many models have electronic parts that are difficult to test. DIY repairs on the latest appliance models are becoming increasingly difficult.
LG Dishwasher CL Code Won’t Turn Off
The CL code on an LG dishwasher indicates that the Child Lock feature is enabled. When the Child Lock is on, cycle and option selection keys won’t work. This feature prevents children from changing settings or causing accidents or malfunctions.
To disable the Child Lock and turn off the CL code, press and hold the designated buttons on the control panel for 3 deliberate seconds. For example, the Half Load and Energy Saver buttons will shut off the child lock on DFB dishwasher models. Follow the instructions in the owner’s manual to turn off the Child Lock feature on your LG dishwasher if your dishwasher uses different buttons. You should then be able to use the control panel normally.
When the LG dishwasher CL code won’t turn off, press and hold the designated buttons for a few seconds longer.
If the control panel won’t respond even after holding the designated buttons down for longer, reset the electronic control board in the dishwasher using this procedure.
- Shut off the light switch beside the kitchen sink that controls electrical power going to the dishwasher or unplug the dishwasher power cord under the sink. You can also turn off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher to completely disconnect electrical power going to the appliance.
- Leave power off for 2 minutes.
- Restore power to the dishwasher.
The electronic control board will reboot and you may then be able to disable the Child Lock as described above.
If the LG dishwasher CL code won’t turn off after following these tips, schedule dishwasher repair service and we’ll send a Sears Home Services technician to fix the problem.

Thorough
James called to give an estimated arrival time. He was professional and personable. He had 2 professional ideas of the problem and found 1 was correct, but he didn't stop there. He did a thorough check of the appliance. 1 small part was needed. He ordered the part to my house. Fortunately, he was able to schedule for the next week, just before Thanksgiving. As before, he called ahead, arrived and quickly fixed the problem. My appliance is working perfectly.
