## Why won't my laundry center dryer spin?

When the dryer motor runs but the drum doesn't turn, a broken dryer drive belt, weak drive motor or binding drum seals could be the problem.

### How to Replace the Dryer Drive Belt in a Stacked Laundry Center Unit

A worn or broken drive belt is the most common cause of a laundry center dryer not spinning when the motor runs.

If you’re confident in your DIY abilities, you may be able to replace a broken dryer drive belt in the laundry center on your own. Follow these steps to replace a laundry center dryer drive belt:

1. Unplug the laundry center. If the dryer uses gas, shut off the gas supply.
2. Pull the laundry center away from the wall to access the rear dryer panel. Use a helper if necessary.
3. Remove the screws from the rear access panel and pull off the access panel.
4. If the belt isn’t broken, reach into the dryer through the rear access panel and release the drive belt from the motor pulley. If the belt is broken, skip this step.
5. Remove the mounting screws from the front access panel and pull off the panel.
6. Remove the mounting screws from the heat shield and pull the heat shield off.
7. Remove the mounting screws holding the control panel to the laundry center frame. Pull the control panel down and forward to release it from the laundry center frame. Let the control panel hang by the wires below the dryer front panel.
8. Remove the 2 mounting screws at the bottom of the front panel. Unplug the door switch wire harness. Remove the 4 mounting screws from the top of the front panel and pull off the front panel.
9. From the front of the dryer, raise the dryer drum slightly and pull the drive belt out of the dryer. Slide the new belt over the drum. From the back of the dryer, reach into the dryer and route the belt over the idler pulley and around the motor pulley.
10. Reassemble the dryer by reversing the disassembly steps above.

### Checking for Other Problems that Can Prevent a Laundry Center Dryer from Spinning

If the drive belt is okay, spin the dryer drum manually to check for binding. If damaged drum seals prevent the drum from spinning, replace the drum seals.

If the drum spins okay and the drive belt is good, then you may need to replace the drive motor because it's too weak to spin the drum.

Replacing the drive motor in a laundry center is a repair that you’ll typically need to have a Sears Technician complete.

## What does the Error Code Mean on my Stacked Laundry Center Unit? 

Sometimes your laundry center tells you exactly what's wrong—as long as you can decipher the code. Sears Home Services can help you figure out what your stacked laundry center unit is telling you when a code appears or lights flash in pattern on the control panel. Here are some common error codes that you’ll see on stacked laundry center units:

* __EL error code on a Whirlpool laundry center.__ This code indicates a washer lid lock failure. Unplug the laundry center and check the wire harness connections between the lid lock assembly and the electronic control board. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires. If the wires are okay, you’ll likely need to replace the lid lock assembly.
* __E1 on Maytag or Whirlpool laundry center.__ The E1 error code indicates that the washer isn’t filling with water. Make sure the water supply faucets behind the washer are fully open. Check the water fill lines for kinks or freezing in the winter. Check the inlet screens on the inlet water valves and replace the valves if the screens are clogged. The inlet screens shouldn't be cleaned because removing them from the valve body can let debris into the inlet water valves and cause leaks when re-attached. If the screens are clear, unplug the laundry center and check the wire harness connections between the electronic control board and the water valve assembly. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires. If the wire are okay, test the resistance through the inlet water valve solenoid coils using a multimeter. The meter should measure between 900 and 1,320 ohms through each solenoid coil. Replace the inlet water valve assembly if either coil resistance is out of that resistance range. If the washer tub fills with water when the E1 error code appears, then a disconnected or broken air hose might be preventing the water level sensor from detecting water level correctly. Check the air hose connections on the bottom of the washer tub and the water level sensor and reconnect the hose if disconnected. Replace the air hose if it's cracked or broken. If the air hose is okay, you'll likely need to replace the water level sensor. If the problem continues after replacing the water level sensor, you'll likely need to replace the electronic control board because the control board isn't detecting water level sensor signals correctly.
