Sears tricked me into disqualifying my wall oven for replacement. We have been a Sears home warranty customer for years. After my husband passed fear of identity theft caused me to close several accounts that were in my husband’s name. Sears Home Warranty was closed by accident. When I attempted to reopen my account there was a discrepancy in Sears’ system that caused my account to appear open in one system and closed in another. This caused a problem on Sears’ end because none of the sales people could reopen my account because when a sales rep attempted to reopen my account they couldn’t do so because sales did not have the appropriate permission level to update my account. For at least a bout 3months I kept checking and was sent to several sales reps until I luckily spoke with a sales rep who explained why she could not make a change to my account because of her permission level. She recommended I call Benefits who has the proper permissions to correct my account. In the meantime I opened a new Sears Warranty account. I was surprised that I reached someone who could help me. Little did I know that my account was reopened due to the sales rep used an erroneous home address. The sales rep encouraged me to purchase a discounted repair service while awaiting 30 days for my new home warranty to become effective. I asked the sales rep if I purchased the discounted repair service if my appliance could not be repaired for some reason would the appliance still be covered when my warranty became active in 30 days. The sales rep stated yes. The sales rep stated that by going ahead and purchasing the discounted repair service would simply communicate that I was trying to trying to keep my appliance in good working order. When the repair guy came to repair my appliance it was discovered that the part was no longer made. The repair guy also alerted me to the fact that my address was wrong and that no such address existed. The repair guy also encouraged me to get my address corrected. Repair guy sent me an Approval for appliance replacement. When I called Sears to find out how their appliance replacement worked I was told again that my appliance had been approved for replacement. I waited a while thinking Sears would contact me but they never did. I learned later that the sales rep gave me erroneous information. When I called Sears Home Warranty Benefits I provided my old contract number to show that over the years we had paid thousands of dollars to Sears. The Benefits rep stated that the additional information on my previous account provided information that Sears needed to approve the appliance replacement. The sales rep said that in 24 hours I would hear back from Sears and that a repair technician would be sent to my home at no cost to me and my appliance would be replaced. I still have not heard from Sears and in the meantime my account was flagged to show no replacement because the appliance could not be repaired prior to my new contract becoming active. This is unfair. The sales rep set me up for not covering my appliance by telling me that my appliance would still be covered. I recommend warranty buyers not fool with the discounted repair “benefit” because it is how Sears gets away with not replacing appliances. I did not expect the part to no longer be available. I trusted the Sears sales representative to be truthful. Instead Sears offers the repair “benefit” to sucker in the unsuspecting customer to have their appliance disqualified for replacement. Buyer beware! I am disgusted with Sears for offering a discounted repair benefit to help to ensure Sears will replace fewer customers appliances. Shame on you Sears!!! Why take advantage of a widow? I can use all the help I can get. Sears needs to replace my appliance as it was approved for replacement but now Sears doesn’t want to honor the approval to replace my appliance. DO NOT PURCHASE THE SEARS HOME WARRANTY APPLIANCE REPAIR BENEFIT - it’s a trick. A bait and switch.
