Troubleshooting a Frigidaire Stove Gas Burner Not Working
When you notice a Frigidaire stove gas burner not working, start troubleshooting the problem by seeing if you can light the burner manually using a match or lighter. If you can, then you’ve narrowed the problem to the burner ignition system. A Frigidaire gas stove typically uses a spark igniter. Components in the ignition system include the ignition switch on the burner knob, wiring, spark module and igniter electrode.
With the burn cool, look for a spill on the igniter electrode that could prevent the ignition spark from jumping from the electrode to the burner to light the gas. Unplug the range and clean the igniter electrode if it’s dirty. Check the electrode insulator below the tip of the electrode. Have a Sears Home Services technician replace the electrode if the insulator is cracked or broken.
On a Frigidaire stove, all burner igniters spark when you turn any one burner knob to the “Lite” position to start a burner. You’ll hear a ticking noise as the sparks arc across the short space between the electrode tip and the burner head. If you don’t hear that ticking when you turn the non-working burner to the “Lite” position, you’ll likely need to replace the ignition switch. Have a Sears Service Technician complete that repair.
