Predatory Business Tactics Our dryer stopped working so I called around. Sears quoted $140 for diagnosis. Expensive but we needed it done quickly. We had just gotten home from a weeks long hospital stay and had piles of dirty laundry. The technician took about 15 minute to diagnose it. Said 3 parts needed replacement and that it would cost me $430! Mind you I paid $100 for the dryer, it was a quick diagnosis, the repair sounded simple enough (just unscrewing a few parts and replacing with new ones) and he said he had the parts on him. I declined and asked him for serial numbers. Bought the parts myself ($15 total for aftermarket) and fixed it in an hour. A trained technician could have done it in 20 minutes. Sears Appliance Repair is using a tactic that abuses the customer’s time and fear of sunk costs. The diagnostic fee of $140 is non-refundable so if you decline an outrageous $430 quote then you’re still out $140. Sears knows enough people will feel the pain of the sunk cost and will be desperate enough for a working appliance that they will just agree to an absurd fee. Embarrassing. I called Sears Appliance Repair to speak to a supervisor or whoever coaches the technicians to come up with their quotes. Not to get the tech in trouble but to get some answers after getting fleeced for $140. Got connected to a foreign call center that couldn’t tell me much. Also asked Sears to email me the technicians report but they never did. All the people I talked to in person or on the phone were nice.

Everything went well once the repairman arrived, but everything leading up to that was unsatisfactory. We originally scheduled the repair for Thursday, June 6 and I received texts confirming that (including on the morning of the 6th), but the website had the service call listed as for Friday - so it was moved without consulting us. The window was 8-12, and the website initially had the estimated arrival time as 10:15. Then it moved to 11:20, then 12:50, then 2:15, then 4:20. He finally arrived after 4pm. So we ended up waiting around the house all day. When I tried to contact someone to understand the timing, it was nearly impossible to reach anyone until I finally called in as a new customer and only then was able to reach a human. It makes no sense that you all could be so far off the estimated time of arrival. If there were customer visits ahead of us, as the experts, you should have a better feel for how long they will take so you don't string us along all day. Also, your website sucks. it is embarrassingly simplistic and not user friendly. You need to upgrade it.

It kills me to have to give one star. If the option were there, it would be negative 100 stars! This is absolutely the most horrible and unreliable company that I have ever worked with! I’m a Realtor for over 25 years and I have worked with and referred many service companies. I’ve never seen anything like this!!! You can’t speak to a LIVE agent with Sears Home Services, EVER! They schedule you electronically and give you an 8 hour window. So you plan your day around that 8 hours and then halfway thru the day, they cancel and say they will reschedule for tomorrow. This has happened more than once! Unfortunately, we have to use this Company because they are contracted with Choice Home Warranty, which is the warranty service that we have. We have Complained to Choice Home Warranty many times. I’m sure other customers have as well. So this doesn’t bode well for Choice Home Warranty either because they continue to contract this horrible company. Even our rep at Choice Home Warranty can’t speak to a live agent at Sears Home Services. Bottom line….Please don’t put yourself thru this stress folks. Go with another service company if you have a choice. And if you are making a AC claim thru your home warranty company that you paid for, then ask your rep when you call for service to NOT schedule you with Sears Home Services. You have that right. There is another company called AR-Tex AC & Heating, that Choice Home Warranty uses. They are timely and great! And at our request, Choice Home Warranty scheduled them first. But the problem for us this time is that AR-Tex found a problem which was caused by the technician with Sears when he serviced our unit a couple of months ago. So rather than let AR-Tex fix the problem, Choice went back to Sears Home Services to do the work (holding them accountable) and this is causing several more days in delays in this hot Texas heat!

We’ve had several experiences and all bad. Their customer service is nonexistent and they will not communicate by humans. Everything is AI. And it screws up. Had a guy out here in January for a heat pump repair (bad TXV) and it seemed to work for heating, but when it got hot and tried to cool, the AC keeps shutting off. Another company came out and told me the Sears guy screwed up with his welding and there is a blockage. I have out of town guests coming out next week and finally got them scheduled for today only to have their AI system call to confirm, which I did, then hang up on me and reschedule. Looks like I’ll likely need to cancel my visitors. Very poor responsiveness and customer service.

Frank diagnosed a damaged heater element for my Kenmore Dryer and said that it would cost me over $800 to replace the heating element assembly, which we had replaced 4-5 years ago for around $200! I paid the $139 diagnosis fee (I already knew it was a faulty heating element), then called two other repair companies and got quotes of $238 and $255 for this same repair. I ended up buying the heating element, thermostat, humidifier, etc. from Amazon for around $50, looked at some YouTube DIY repair videos, and completed the repair myself - the dryer works great now! In my humble opinion, this technician is using the Sears name to charge exorbitant prices for repairs, and knows that he is ripping off his unaware customers. Because of this fraudulent experience, I will NEVER use Sears Home Repair Service again! They also try to hard sell you a yearly warranty that covers all of your household major appliances - NO THANK YOU! Fortunately, I did my homework and got some other credible bids, which were less than half of what Frank was going to charge! I did the repair myself for around $50, and didn’t have to go through the cost, inconvenience, time, and hassle of buying a new dryer when my old dryer was easily repairable for a very reasonable price! Don’t allow yourself to be scammed! Shame on you, Frank, and I’m very disappointed with Sears because of this negative experience!

With appointment. 6 March (8 to 5pm) the tech arrived 4:50pm w/o A/C freon, although I had filled out all A/C Unit information requested by Sears online, the tech was totally uninformed. Got new appointment for 16 march with Sears automated appointment, again lunch block time and waited and waited....The appointment was changed several times with Sears AI system, always stating that we were next in line. 4hrs later I called the Tech directly and he was totally surprised and unaware (no coordination with Sears) but I met him 45 Minutes later. He pressured me into cleaning the A/C unit for service. I had no choice but to do it in order to receive the service (after 4 weeks request) He complained at his work and tried to make me feel bad for it, stating that I should be grateful!! After refill of 5 pound of freon I asked how much the unit holds and he stated 10 pounds which meant, the unit still had 5 pound . I questioned why it was not cooling still having 5 pound in it but he could not answer. He used the R-410 A . I felt very uncomfortable throughout that experience. This service was provided by our Choice warranty Insurance.

Total Sham. Repairman did not fix my refrigerator. He asked for $50 cash to vacuum my coils. I paid approx $140 for a service call and paid the repairman, Winfred, $50 in two $20s & two $5's as Winfred had requested, to clean my coils. My husband came home because my refrigertor was now 58 degrees when it should have been 38 degrees. Winfred did NOT vacuum my coils. When my husband called, Winfred said I told him my husband would vacuum the coils and that I tipped Winfred $50 and even gave him cookies. Total liar. I don't tip professionals and I dont have cookies in the house to offer to repairman. Had my refrigerator been fixed I would not complain about being scammed. I expect a full refund for the service call and also a refund for my $50.

The technician didn’t fix the issue, instead caused a major flood in our fridge and kitchen. Please send someone experienced ASAP!
