I made an online appointment for a repair of my refrigerator since it wasn't keeping cold as it should. I had two repair technicians come out to assist, diagnose that it was a fan that needed replacing and quote me a $517 repair. That seemed high, but I needed the work done. They had the part on hand and got everything taken care of in around 30 minutes. However, when it came time to pay and use my credit card, one of the techs (who seemed to be new/trainee) didn't have any kind of card reader on his phone. The more experience tech came back and they said they needed to call it in. The took down my credit card info on an envelope while I was standing there outside my condo so they could key it in on their phones in their automated payment system - in hindsight, I should have just read it aloud to them over and over again (see below). It took a few attempts (fraud protection kicked in the first time from my credit card company) before it went through. I thought everything was all set, but this is where the issues start for me, even though both techs were very polite and helpful during the visit. First, I checked my e-mail and saw the actual breakout of my bill which was $401 for labor for something that took 30 minutes at most. I figured a lot of the price quote was parts, but that was only $85 - how this work was $401 for 30 minutes I cannot understand. Second, the next morning, I got 3 separate fraudulent purchase attempts with Walmart using my card number - thankfully I was able to dispute the first and the second two were blocked by my card company as I changed my card number. Is it possible this was not tied to my service call? Sure, but for it to happen the very next day seems incredibly suspect, at a minimum. Third, in trying to understand the labor cost and wanting to alert someone at the local Sears repair branch about a potential issue with either techs using my card number or possibly not handling my information properly, you cannot speak to anyone at the local Manchester branch. I called two different days - once to the 1-800 # and once to the local # and both times they connect you to a call center outside the U.S. who only has limited knowledge of your situation and cannot connect with the local branch. Bottom line: The actual service work done was quick and handled well, but everything else in this situation was terrible and incredibly unresponsive. Again, I don't know if their techs were the ones using my card, but this seems like something (at a minimum) the local branch should be made aware of. Looking at other reviews on here from people who have had a problem, the fact that the response is to contact Sears Service via Facebook only further confirms how unresponsive this service is (especially for someone like me who doesn't have a Facebook account to begin with).

After waiting for the ordered part the service provider did not check to see if it worked. No water allowed into the machine. When I called the service provider they said I would have to re-schedule through Sears. Sears was to call me on a specific day; they did not. I have the warranty on the washer. I did love the washer, but will never buy a Sears product again. I have been inconvenienced to say the least for 4 weeks now.

Technician was fine but the labor cost was ridiculous. He quoted me over $700 to replace a part that was covered under warranty. Not knowing the extent of the job, I approved based on the assumption he’d need a few hours to complete the job. Two hours later he was finished. So that’s roughly a $350/hr labor rate. No wonder why Sears business is declining. I’ll never use them again.
