The first thing that you’ll need to check when your Samsung oven isn’t heating is the gas supply.
Check the Gas Supply
If your surface burners are working, then you know your oven should be getting gas as well. If the burners aren’t working, check your gas supply cut-off valve to make sure that it's open. If it is open and you’re not getting gas, then you need to contact your gas supplier to figure out what’s wrong.
Some ranges have a service cut-off valve on the pressure regulator that shuts off the gas supply to the oven and not the surface burners. If your range has one, make sure that service valve is open.

Test the igniter
Pull the bottom panel out of your cold oven. Start the oven and see if the igniter glows.
If the igniter glows you may be convinced it’s working and want to replace the safety gas valve. But the safety gas valve rarely fails. The igniter can glow but not get hot enough to open the safety gas valve. In fact, this is the most frequent failure when an oven burner won't ignite even though the igniter is glowing bright. Replacing the igniter in this situation usually fixes the problem.
If you're uncertain whether your glowing igniter has failed, you can have a trained service technician check the amp draw through the igniter circuit.
If the igniter wasn’t glowing, you’ll need to use a multimeter to test it.
Unplug the range. For safety, always disconnect power before checking resistance. To check the resistance of the igniter, put the meter leads on the igniter terminals. If you measure between 10 and 2,500 ohms, then you know your igniter is okay.
If the igniter measures no continuity, that’s an OL on this meter, then you need to replace the igniter. Here’s a video showing you how:
Test the safety gas valve
Next, check resistance on the safety gas valve. The safety gas valve should measure less than 5 ohms of resistance. If the safety gas valve measures no continuity, you can have a service technician replace that part.
If the igniter and the safety gas valve both check okay, then you could have a problem with wiring, or a defective electronic control board.

Samsung Oven not Heating Over 150
When your Samsung oven is not heating over 150, follow these troubleshooting tips to fix the problem.
- Reset the oven control board. Shut off the house circuit breaker for the oven for 5 minutes. Reset the circuit breaker to restore electrical power to the oven. The oven control board will reset and reboot. It may begin working properly. Check to see if the oven heats normally after resetting the control board.
- Check the bake element for damage. For an electric Samsung oven not heating over 150, shut off the house circuit breaker for the oven and examine the bake element. If you see a crack or visible damage to the bake element, have a service technician replace that part.
- Examine the bake burner igniter. A weak igniter in a gas Samsung oven can prevent the bake burner from lighting properly. When the igniter is weak, it will light the burner from a cold start-up of the oven but won’t continue to ignite the burner after the control cycles the burner off to maintain oven temperature. Let the oven cool down for more than an hour and then start the oven again in the bake mode. If the burner ignites and heats the oven but then the burner stops working, you’ll likely need to have a technician replace the weak igniter to fix the heating problem.
Samsung Gas Oven Not Heating Over 175
When you have a Samsung gas oven not heating over 175, follow these troubleshooting tips.
- Check the control settings. The Celsius temperature 175 equates to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. If your control panel is displaying temperature in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit, follow the directions in your owner’s manual to switch the control temperature display to Fahrenheit.
- Check the bake burner igniter. A weak or broken bake burner igniter could be causing the heating problem in your Samsung oven. Let the oven cool completely. Pull the bottom panel out of the bottom of the oven so you can see the bake burner and its igniter. Start a bake cycle and see whether the bake igniter glows and lights the bake burner. If the igniter doesn’t glow, you’ll need to have a service technician replace it. If the igniter glows but doesn’t light the burner, the igniter could still be bad even though it glows. If the igniter lights the burner initially but won’t relight the burner after the control cycles off the burner to maintain the set temperature, then the igniter is weak and you’ll need to have a technician replace it.
- Reset the electronic control. Sometimes, resetting the electronic control will fix a problem with your Samsung gas oven not heating over 175. To reset the oven control board, unplug the oven or shut off the house circuit breaker for the oven to completely disconnect electrical power. Leave power off for 5 minutes then plug the oven back in or reset the house circuit breaker for the oven to restore electrical power. The oven control board will reboot and reset. You may then be able to use the oven normally.
