Most common repairs needed to fix a GE freezer
Icemaker Assembly Replacement
When the ice maker in your GE freezer is not making ice, try resetting the ice maker according to the instructions in the owner’s manual. Sometimes, unplugging the freezer or shutting off the house circuit breaker for the freezer to completely disconnect power for 5 minutes will reset the ice maker. After restoring power, the ice maker may begin working. If not, schedule freezer repair service and we’ll send a Sears Home Services technician to your home to fix the problem.
Water Valve Replacement
The water valve is activated by the ice maker to refill the ice mold following harvest of ice cubes from the ice maker assembly. If you hear the buzz of the water valve activating after the ice cubes drop into the ice storage bin and the water valve doesn’t open properly to fill the ice mold with water, schedule refrigerator repair service to have a Sears Home Services technician visit your home and replace the water valve if it’s bad.
Electronic Control Board Replacement
The electronic control board supplies power to the ice maker assembly in the freezer. When your GE freezer is not making ice, a defective electronic control board may not be supplying the ice maker assembly with power. Resetting the electronic control board may fix that problem. Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes to completely disconnect electrical power from the appliance for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in to restore power and the control board will reboot and reset. If the ice maker still doesn’t work after resetting the electronic control board, have a service technician examine the freezer and fix the problem.
