These LG cooktops look sleek and modern. They definitely catch your eye in the kitchen. But when they start acting up, they've got unique problems other brands don't.
Fire up the cooktop and nothing happens. No heat, no indicator lights, or maybe just certain burners refuse to work. These are common complaints on LG models.
First check the obvious – the power supply. Cooktops have their own dedicated circuit. Check the breaker panel. Sometimes a small power surge trips the breaker. Reset it and the cooktop may begin working again. This sounds simple but it fixes the problem surprisingly often.
Individual burners sometimes don’t work on the glass top models. The heating elements under the smooth cooktop surface can wear out. Replacing a bad surface element is often a repair best left to a cooktop repair technician.
Wiring connections work loose. All that heating and cooling makes metal expand and contract. Eventually wires can vibrate loose or break at connection points.
Control modules fail in these units somewhat regularly. LG packs a lot of electronics into a small space that gets hot all the time. This is not ideal conditions for electronic parts. They eventually give up. Usually you'll see error codes or some burners work while others don't.
Look for signs of water damage on the controls. Just one boil-over that seeps into the wrong spot can fry those circuits. The smooth top models are sealed pretty well, but liquid finds a way in eventually. Once moisture hits those circuit boards, corrosion starts eating away at the connections.
Touch controls can get glitchy. Sometimes they respond, sometimes they don't. Or they turn on by themselves. The sensitivity gets messed up over time. Cleaning solutions can make it worse - some chemicals damage the touch sensors. We’ve seen a bunch of LG LSCE365ST models with this exact issue.
Temperature control problems can drive you crazy. Set it on medium and it winds up scorching your pans. Or high barely gets water boiling.
Induction models have completely different problems than standard electric cooktops. There are lots more electronics involved.
Glass breaks sometimes. Doesn't matter how careful you are. Drop a can from the cabinet above - crack. Set down a heavy pot too hard - crack. It happens.
Hairline cracks might not affect performance right away. But they'll grow over time as the glass heats and cools. Eventually creates a safety hazard. Glass has sharp edges when it breaks, and moisture can get into the electronics underneath.
Full replacement is the only real fix for cracked glass. Some folks try epoxy or other fillers, but they don't hold up to the heat. Plus most aren't food safe. It’s not worth the risk.
Getting the right replacement glass matters. LG uses different glass for different models, and they're not interchangeable. You need the exact part for your specific model. One tiny difference in the pattern or cutouts and it won't fit right.
Schedule cooktop repair service when you need to have the glass top replaced.
Cooktops shouldn't make much noise beyond maybe a soft hum or click as elements cycle on and off. New or unusual sounds mean trouble.
The glass surface takes abuse. Even careful cooks end up with scratches, stains, or damage over time.
Some LG cooktop issues you can handle yourself. Basic cleaning, checking breakers, making sure you use the right cookware on induction models -- simple stuff that doesn't involve taking things apart.

BTU, or British Thermal Unit, measures the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit.
An induction cooktop is a type of kitchen stove that uses electromagnetic fields to directly heat pots and pans, bypassing the need to heat the cooktop itself.
A compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume, essential in various systems including refrigerators, air conditioners, and HVAC units for cooling and refrigeration processes.
A condenser is a component of HVAC and refrigeration systems, responsible for releasing absorbed heat from the refrigerant into the outside air or a water line, thus facilitating the cooling process.
