Our MayTag washer stopped working. We set up an diagnostic appointment with Sears. Their tech came out (older man), took a look (15min), and told us the capacitor was shot. He quoted us $570 to replace (labor + material), but said the washer was also leaking and would likely need to be replaced within the year. My roommate and I took that to mean it was totalled, and were ready to replace the entire $800 3-year old washer and buy another for similar price. Diagnostic visit cost $120. However, after hauling the washer out to the garage, my roommate and I took a look ourselves and realized the capacitor itself was causing the leak. So, we bought a new capacitor for $30, took 15 min to swap it, and washer is good as new. So, the techs diagnostic almost cost us $800 for a brand new washer, + $120 for coming out! We reached out to customer support to express our frustration, but did not provide any refund. Would not recommend!!! And let me know if you have issues with your washer, my roomie and I are experts now! xD

Wouldn’t use again because the cost of parts was outrageous. Response to owner response: the phone number only provides an automated maze with no apparent way to reach a human (only a useless AI agent). The website also has no apparent relevant contact details.

I have been trying to get my refrigerator repaired since May. Sears has had 5 appointments to perform the repair of my ice maker. It is rude and unprofessional for Sears to make you wait ALL DAY LONG, from 8 am. and 5 p.m. And then not show at all. Today is the second appointment Sears has failed to show up and failed to email or call to say what the problem might be. You are supposed to wait all day and then NOTHING. When you call in, the automated systems makes another appointment for you. There is no way to contact a human at Sears to find out when or if the repairman will show up. It's a disgrace for a once-great company to have become this sham of an operation.

8-9 visits over 4 weeks, still not fixed, had to hire the HVAC tech that sold me the unit originally, at a a cost of ~$350.

Technician did not appear knowledgeable about this type of ice maker. He first claimed the entire control panel needed to be replaced, but then when the warranty company pushed back and asked for proof, he didn't know how to prove it without getting a supervisor on the phone to walk through each step. But before the supervisor walked him through it, I heard him say multiple times that he wanted to just leave and go handle the rest of his appointments. Then once he and the supervisor went through a bunch of steps, he proceeded to tell me that everything works fine, when clearly we are still seeing the problem. He blamed it on ice buildup caused by condensation which he said was caused by us keeping the door open too long. I explained that I had completely thawed and dried the ice bucket out last night. He said ice doesn't build up that quick. I said well, obviously it did, and he basically told me my word wasn't enough for him to believe that I really did clear out all the buildup. So I guess I'm lying? He told me to just let the problem happen again and keep calling the warranty company to put pressure on them.

Technicians did not have the proper tools to be able to move my stove and make the repair. This is not an issue with the technicians themselves. Sears should not be servicing GE ranges if they do not supply their technicians the proper tools and training.

STAY AWAY FROM THEM. Here is why: They literally took my money and never provided the service!! I think this is the definition of stealing. I requested a service back in April. They scheduled the service on a Friday and charged me about $400. No one showed up. I called the customer service and was on the phone for 6 HOURS (yes, 6 hours). All I was told was that they had a system glitch no one will show up today. My life was miserable with the broken refrigerator. Then, they rescheduled a new service appointment on the following Monday and guess what? I stayed home again and no one showed up!! They canceled my request but never issued me a refund. I have been in contact with them multiple times since then. All I hear is we have approved your refund and have escalated your case to our billing department and they will contact you within a few days. After several weeks of wanting I called them again and the same scenario: we apologize. We have escalated your case and the billing department will contact you. It is November and the escalated case has not been reviewed by the billing department yet. I tried to dispute the charge by the credit card company. They sent them the tracking information of the parts which was covered by the warranty and refused the dispute (it was a lie; I was disputing the cost of service that I paid and never received but they argued they delivered the parts which was paid by the warranty). Long story short: STAY AWAY FROM THEM. They take your money, your time, your nerves and provide no service. I will update this post if they issue me the refund. Update 1: 11/7/2024 no refund has been issued yet! Update 2: As you see, they asked me right after my comment to email them. I emailed last week (11/8/2024), and since then I have received absolutely no response; not even the confirmation that they received my email. As of now, they show no responsibility and care for the customer and my advice is STAY AWAY FROM THEM. Latest update (12/10/2024): They contacted me and said they will process my refund only if I return the parts (parts were covered by my refrigerator's warranty. I agreed to return them (I don't need them) but they say I am responsible for the shipping cost of the parts and they refused to reimburse me!!!! Wow! Unbelieve. They take no responsibility for they mistakes. It was not my fault that they scheduled two appointments and their technician never showed up! Now I have to spend more money to send them back the parts.

I took off a day from work yesterday for a 4 hour time block when a technician was supposed to arrive, 4 minutes before the 4 hours were up I get a notice that my appointment was rescheduled for the next day requiring me to take another day off for a 4 hour block again. No way to call anyone at Sears and speak to a live person. When the technician arrived today he was polite but when he was working proceeded to play music on his phone which was very annoying as I was trying to work upstairs. Sears truly does not care about people at all.
