Floyd J,
Walla Walla, WAMorris-5, Sears-2
Morris is a very kind and pleasant gentleman who strives to provide good service and seems to go above and beyond for customers. My unpleasant experience with this "repair" is no fault of his. Sears Home Services could have prevented this entire fiasco by looking at the information I put into the online system and responding appropriately. I gave my model and serial number, as requested, as well as a description of what was happening, and believed that this information would be used to prepare my repairman for the job. Since I thought it was the temperature probe and described a temperature regulation issue, I imagined this would be communicated to Morris so that on the day of my service (you know, the day I sat around for hours waiting for his arrival) he would arrive at my house with the correct part. Alas, this information was not shared, so a second visit had to be scheduled. Morris was very kind and communicated with me about his arrival. But it was all for nothing. After spending over $500 to fix a probably 20-year-old oven, the problem was not fixed at all! Since the probe replacement didn't fix the problem, it had to be the control board. But the replacement part for my oven isn't even made anymore! Worse, if it was, the total repair would have cost almost $1,000! Fortunately, half of my money was returned (or will be), but still, I'm out over $250 and several hours of my life over two days, and my oven still does the same thing! Why didn't the Sears system inform me at the outset that my oven was too old to be worth fixing at their exorbitant repair rates? And due to lack of parts, might not even be fixable? Or how about at least a heads up on how much different types of repair jobs cost? I am convinced that the high repair rates are designed not just to make money, but to frighten homeowners into buying the Sears Home Warranty. Morris was very, very kind, but I don't ever want to do business with Sears again.
