Masihullah did a thorough check of the refrigerator. Even though it didn't make the sound I had been hearing, he surmised that it was the compressor. Knowing the age of the machine, 21 years, it is likely the sound of it beginning to struggle when it cycles on to maintain the temperature setting. Since it is still working and properly cooling and freezing, there was no repair needed now. I'm hoping for the best.
