The Energy Star Award program celebrates companies who make the environment a priority.
You’ve probably heard of Energy Star, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification program for energy-efficient appliances and other products that deliver savings without sacrificing functionality.
But the EPA also has an Energy Star Award program to celebrate organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through energy efficiency. These organizations don’t just carry Energy Star-certified products — they also go to great lengths to curb their own energy use, educate employees about energy efficiency, and engage with customers about the financial and environmental benefits of choosing energy-efficient products. As in 2013, Sears Holdings is again a proud winner of Energy Star’s 2014 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award.
Focused on the Right Things
The Sustained Excellence Award is only given to a select group of organizations that exhibit outstanding leadership year after year.
“We are committed to our partnership with Energy Star, and dedicated to increasing energy efficiency through our operational excellence, Kenmore product offerings and partnerships with local utilities,” says Ron Boire, executive vice president, chief merchandising officer and president of Sears and Kmart formats.
Sears has been committed to these principles for as long as Energy Star has been around, says Tom Puchala, director of product management at Sears Home Services. “We have a long history of working with Energy Star and with our manufacturers to make sure we meet or exceed all of their specifications,” he says.
As part of this close working relationship, Sears engineers partner with the EPA to identify new ways to add efficiencies to our products. That means Sears always strives to be ahead of the curve in incorporating the latest cost-effective, energy-efficient designs into our product lines, Puchala says.
The Kenmore brand alone features numerous Energy Star-certified products across all categories — from entry-level models to the premium Kenmore Elite line. This variety ensures everyone, on any budget, can benefit from the energy savings that comes from buying an Energy Star-certified appliance.
Energy Efficiency = Savings
“One of our greatest priorities is to provide our shoppers with meaningful savings,” Boire says. “Energy Star products, particularly appliances, deliver financial benefits over a product’s lifetime.”
Sears’ commitment to making Energy Star an option for everyone is one of the reasons we won the Partner of the Year Award. “Sears Holdings leads the field with its commitment to energy efficiency,” said Bob Perciasepe, deputy administrator at the EPA, in a release about the award. “It demonstrates how all Americans can save energy, save money and create a healthier environment.”
