How many batches of cookies does one have to burn before she
realizes that there's something wrong with her oven? Let's just say I did my
part to keep the butter, flour and sugar industries afloat this past holiday
season.
The cold weather inspires me to cook at home rather than
going out. Hopping a bus to grab a bite at a restaurant with friends
is much less appealing when it involves donning 2 tons of wool to defend myself
against Chicago's glacial winter
winds.
I have had some winter cooking victories. Over the holidays
I made great black bean chili in my crock pot, perfected my stir-fry technique
and even dabbled in the pancake arts. But every time I stuck something in the
oven, I was horribly disappointed. I produced a record number of charred black
discs – inedible entities formerly known as cookies.
A lot can go wrong in the kitchen and it's sometimes
operator error, but if everything you bake comes out charred, there's good news;
it's not you, it's your oven. As it turns out, my oven's internal thermostat
was off by more than 100 degrees and having it fixed was painless.
Here's the even better news; you can schedule service for
kitchen appliances online. Don't toast another roast, waste another batch of
cookies or set fire to a turkey breast. Schedule service today; there's still a
lot of winter left to bake through.
I need to cancel a scheduled reapir appointment for tommorrow. How can I do that

My Sears Electric Range, Model 790, will not enter "self clean" mode. Following the directions on p. 18 of the manual, I pressed "Select Clean" and then the ^. The lock did not engage, and "CLn" did not appear in the display. What am I doing wrong?

Cassie, this is Kevyn with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Different model ranges have different specific instructions on how to initiate the self-clean mode. I was not able to locate your owner's manual because there are more numbers after the 790 that make up a model number. Anyhow, if you are following all the instructions like you said, then I believe that you may need to perform a hard reset. Turn the circuit breaker switch for your range OFF for at least one minute, then turn it back on. This will reset the control board and should solve the problem. If this does not fix the issue, the root problem could be the main control board itself or the wiring harness. In this case, I would recommend having a technician take a look at it to ensure everything gets repaired properly. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please give us a call at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a Kenmore ceramic top cookstove that I love. My oven will not heat I can program the temperature and the oven and preheat lights come on, but the oven itself does not heat. This happened when I raised the bottom element to wipe up a spill. Could it be a broken wire where the element goes into the back of the oven?

This is Tino with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Pamela, I would like to assist you with this issue because I completely understand how a situation like this can not only be puzzling but a huge inconvenience for you. Thank you for submitting your question and turning to us for advice on this matter. It does look like when the spill was being cleaned up, the element may have disconnected from the back wiring. Without a model number, I will not be able to actually pinpoint how the element is placed inside your oven. What I do know is that most elements can be removed by removing a clamp and replacing the clamp after use. If your element is not one of them, then it is a safe bet that the wires have been removed and for that, we would recommend getting some professional assistance. For setting up service, seeing our first available dates and pricing, you are more than welcome to visit our www.SearsHomeServices.com website, or contacting us at 1-800-803-6775 where our representatives will gladly get you all set up. I hope this helps!
